Software Defined Vehicle

The idea of a Software Defined car (SDV), where software has the major impact on the particular experience a user gets from a car, is being embraced by the automobile industry. Software is utilized to set up the experience, enable ever-more-complex capabilities from the hardware that has been installed, and will be upgraded over time to provide a safe, secure, and changing experience during the course of the vehicle. This makes use of service-oriented communication to make it possible to move and add functionalities without completely redesigning the vehicle. This isolates the software development of the program from the hardware on which it runs, enabling software reuse and low-effort hardware upgrades as needed. This is in line with AUTOSAR’s long-held goals.

OEMs must have both a flexible, contemporary base software platform upon which to build and a software development environment with digital continuity that reuses data from upstream design tools to increase quality by lowering manual errors and shorten development times through automation. Utilizing virtual and automatic validation techniques, contemporary Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodologies guarantee reliable updates on time and under budget across the software life cycle. OEMs and significant Tier 1 suppliers are progressively adopting software factory approaches, which are supported by automation and virtual validation capabilities, minimizing the use of manual operations.

What’s New in the Siemens Capital Embedded AR Classic Software?

Capital Embedded has been updated from earlier versions of Capital VSTAR developed around AUTOSAR 4.x releases with AUTOSAR release R20-11 and other enhancements beyond in areas of client demand.

Enhancing Siemens’s powerful current gateway and com stack capabilities Support for IEEE-SA 10Base-T1S, additions to DoIP (Diagnostics over IP), and continuous support for SOME/IP all contribute to the expansion of automotive Ethernet. All of them increase the support for mixed-technology and Ethernet-based systems.

Siemens Capital Embedded Bootloader software extends the support for SDV capabilities into the future by supporting FOTA (Firmware over the Air) capabilities. Siemens currently offers extensive support for multi-core chip-sets, which are increasingly widespread in powerful ECUs that frequently host a variety of functions with different requirements. BSW multi-core distribution is an addition to that support.

Along with existing support for Functional Safety up to ISO 26262 ASIL D, Cyber Security also sees updates and extensions for IDSM (Intrusion Detection System Manager), IPsec, and TLS (Transport Layer Security). This expands the suitability of Capital Embedded for demanding applications increasingly common in Domain Controllers and Electrification ECUs as well as more conventional Powertrain, Drivetrain, and other powerful ECUs, while still providing an efficient securing solution.

Developer First Tooling

Siemens Capital Embedded Integrator AR Classic software, which has a friendly user interface, automates tedious procedures, ensures quality through consistency checks, and directs developers as to where to make modifications to offer right software. By further automating virtual validation of the AUTOSAR-based software on the developer’s laptop, Siemens Capital Embedded Virtualizer AR Classic software expands on this and frees up costly physical validation rigs. Support for CI/CD workflows is an integral part of the product and has been amply demonstrated by customer use. Other features include requirements linkage to ALM tools, plugins and connections to other tools for configuration management, etc. Exchange of a range of standardized and proprietary exchange formats is also possible.

Comprehensive Solution

As a result, software platform and development tools are created for SDV platforms and cutting-edge automotive software factories at OEM and Tier 1 suppliers. These tools also receive frequent updates to improve Siemens Capital Embedded solutions for future requirements. With more to come, the Infineon Aurix TC4x family of MCUs is the first silicon Siemens support on AUTOSAR R20-11.
