This article outlines a few of the important architectural considerations required for the proper operation of smart devices inside an IIoT infrastructure, with a focus on the device software. A promising new paradigm that tackles some of the fundamental device software gaps will be discussed, along with a few of the more typical device software difficulties.
Enabling Embedded Devices for Industrial Internet of Things (IIot)
The major goals on an Industrial IoT implementation are:
- End nodes and edge/gateway type embedded devices must be securely connected to a cloud backend.
- Data from these devices should be collected, visualized/analyzed, or presented in a useful way.
- Using a cloud-based architecture, provide a way for users to interface with, configure, maintain, and upgrade devices.
