Solid Edge Requirements Management

Solid Edge Requirements Management integrates Polarion, the browser-based Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution with Solid Edge. Available as an add-on license with Solid Edge, the application is designed for users who need to track requirements for mechanical systems.

Functional specification documents can be broken out into individual requirements referred to as work items. The work items can then be assigned to individuals, display status, and contain attachments such as a 3D PDF of a CAD document. You use work items to trace the requirements for each CAD model back to the original work items in Polarion.

The following are some reasons for using Solid Edge Requirements Management.

Relate the Requirements to the CAD Design

Use options in the Requirements docking pane to find and associate work items with your CAD design. You can search for a work item in Polarion without leaving Solid Edge. Then, just click a button to add the work item ID to the current Solid Edge document.

Implement the Requirements

Work items are listed on a tab of the Requirements pane. Just double-click the work item to open it in Polarion and view the specific requirement details that need to be implemented for that design. Then use Solid Edge to create a design that satisfies the requirements stated in the associated work items.

Verify the Requirements are Implemented

Publish a 3D PDF of your Solid Edge document to a work item and upload it to Polarion so that it can be viewed outside of Solid Edge. When the work item is viewed in Polarion, a Comment can be seen indicating the Solid Edge document to which the work item ID has been added.

Solid Edge Requirements Management can help make sure your CAD designs meet the right requirements on time.
