Successful IoT in Electronics Manufacturing

Abstract

For electronics manufacturing, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been limited and scattered. The Internet of Things is supposed to link everything, not to create automated islands. If realistic mass adoption of IoT as a viable business model is to occur, the driving force must be that every entity inside the factory benefits.

The simultaneous linkage of technology and business models is the way forward for the electronics manufacturing industry to experience a subtle but dramatic transformation toward Industry 4.0’s true mandate.

What you get from this white paper

This paper describes an example of Industry 4.0 – the Fraunhofer Future Packaging Line, introduced at the SMT Nuremberg show in 2017.
The Fraunhofer booth presented a concept of the world’s first open, multi-vendor, IoT-connected surface mount technology (SMT) line, exhibiting the technology as well as the mutually advantageous business model options that IoT connectivity provides.
